Luis Rendon -- Named National Gatorade Boy’s Soccer Player of the Year!!!

Today, while sitting in his art class at Cosby High School, Luis Rendon (FC Richmond Magic ’93) had no idea what was about to hit him. In the hallway was former MLS standout, Alecko Eskandarian, ready to come in to the class and let Luis know that he was named Gatorade National Boy’s Soccer Player of the Year. Luis, a current junior at Cosby, and member of the Magic ’93 team, is the
first Virginia soccer player to win the National Award and the first Junior to win the National Award. Luis has spent the rest of the day enjoying the recognition with his teammates, coaches, and members of the Gatorade and ESPN Rise family. Luis, who will attend the ESPY Awards later this year, is now up for Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year. Luis, cannot celebrate too long, as he heads to Portugal with the US Under-18 National Team on May 19th. Congratulations to Luis on being named Gatorade Boy’s Soccer National Player of the Year.

Congratulations to the FC Richmond Mystx ’96 on a successful run to the U14 Girls Spring VCCL Championship. The girls finished the season the undefeated (4 wins, 3 ties) to win the championship. The season also included a great run in State Cup, which ended in a loss to the eventual State Cup runner-up. All in all it was a great season for the ladies and a well deserved championship. Congratulations to Coach Tim Krout and the Mystx ’96 -- Champions of VCCL for the Spring 2011 season.

Luis Rendon Called Into U18 US National Team...Again!!!!

Luis Rendon, a member of the FC Richmond Magic ’93,

has been called
into the U18 National Team training camp in Portland, Oregon over the week of April 16-24. The team will gather on the Nike Campus in Portland. While there, the team will play friendlies against the Portland Timbers, University of Portland, and University of Washington. To read the entire article on US Soccer,
click here. This will be the first time the entire team is training together since their trip to Phoenix in February. Luis has been regular call up to the U18 National Team over the past several months, including a trip to Israel to compete against Israel, France, and Germany.

FC Richmond With Successful Opening to State Cup Play!
The spring VYSA State Cup kicked off on Saturday, April 9th. FC Richmond scored 3 wins on the day...FC Richmond Magic ’97 (U13 Boys), FC Richmond Magic ’96 (U14 Boys), and FC Richmond Mystx ’96 (U14 Girls) all secured impressive wins in their opening games of the tournament. The Mystx ’96 and Magic ’96 both moved into the Round of 16 in their respective competitions, while the Magic ’97 moved into the Round of 32.
The FC Richmond Mystx ’’97 (U13 Girls) and FC Richmond Magic ’98 (U12 Boys) look to continue with the same success as they open up State Cup play this Saturday at Huguenot Park.
VCCL Expands to the North!

The Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL) Board of Directors is proud to announce that eight new clubs will be joining the league in the fall of 2011.
Current VCCL club members, Beach FC, FC Richmond, Richmond Strikers, Richmond Kickers, Roanoke Star, SOCA (Charlottesville), Virginia Legacy (Williamsburg), and Virginia Rush (Virginia Beach) serve players from central and southeastern Virginia.
Joining VCCL as members of VCCL North are eight clubs from Northern Virginia: Annandale Boys & Girls Club, Arlington Soccer Association, Braddock Road Youth Club (BRYC), Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association (FASA), Great Falls Soccer Club, Loudoun Youth Soccer Association, Prince William Soccer Inc. (PWSI), and Southwestern Youth Association (SYA).

FC Richmond Magic ’96 with Impressive Showing at Jefferson Cup!
The Magic ’96 (U14 Boys) played a great weekend of soccer at the Jefferson Cup, here in Richmond...March 12-13. Playing in a group that consisted of teams from Chicago, Illinois, and Maryland, the Magic group advanced out of their division with a 2-1 record. In the finals, the boys ran in to a tough Eastern FC team out of New York. Even though our boys dropped a 4-2 decision in the finals, they still had a great weekend. Now they will prepare to start up their VCCL league play and make another impressive State Cup run.

Great Weekend for FC Richmond at Chesterfield Icebreaker!!!
Over the weekend of March 5-6, nearly 20 FC Richmond teams competed in the annual Chesterfield Icebreaker Tournament. The weather was great, and most games were played before the heavy rain came in. All in all, 12 FC Richmond teams finished the weekend as Champions or Finalists. Below is the complete list.

Early Success in Va Legacy President’s Day Tournament 
Over the weekend of February 19-20, a few FC Richmond Magic and Mystx teams kicked off their Spring season competing in the Va Legacy President’s Day Tournament. A beautiful weekend for soccer lead to some good action on the field. After the weekend was over, the FC Richmond Magic ’97 and FC Richmond Mystx ’97 (pictured) both finished as runner-ups in their respective U13 divisions. Congratulations to both teams on a great weekend and great start to the spring season.
Phoenix Trip – A Success for FC Richmond Magic and Mystx ‘96
Every year, the U14 Magic and U14 Mystx teams head to Phoenix, Arizona to compete in the SC Del Sol Phoenix Desert Classic. This year was no different, and the trip proved to be a great experience for both teams. Not only did the group enjoy some wonderful sightseeing amongst the cacti and mountains, they were also able to play some good soccer and watch some quality soccer. The Mystx ’96 finished the trip as semi-finalists of a strong U14 Girls Division. The Magic ’96 (pictured left) finished the trip as Champions of a strong U14 Group, winning the title in a tough Penalty Kick shootout. In between playing some great games, the group was able to watch some MLS scrimmages that were being held at the same Reach 11 facility. All in all, it was another successful trip to Phoenix for FC Richmond. Great job to both the boys and the girls.
Luis Rendon Heading to Arizona with U18 National Team
Rendon, a member of the FC Richmond Magic ’93, has been called back in to training with the U18 National Team. Luis will meet up with is National Team teammates in Phoenix on February 12th. While in Arizona, the team will train at the newly designed Grande Sports World (GSW) Facility. The GSW complex is the home to several MLS teams during their preseason preparation. While at the complex, the U18 National Team will train and play in several scrimmages against some of those MLS teams. Luis recently returned from a trip to Israel with the U18 National Team. While in Israel, the team compted in a four Nations Tournament against Israel, Germany, and France. This will be another great opportunity for Luis, and the rest of the U18 National Team, to train at a wondeful soccer facility and against some quality MLS teams.
FC Richmond Players Selected to VCCL Select Teams!!
Every year, the Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL) selects a U14 Boys and Girls Select Team to train together and participate in the Dallas Cup Tournament (boys) and Clearwater Easter International Tournament (girls). The teams are made up of participating VCCL clubs and players are selected based on their performance throughout the VCCL Season. FC Richmond is proud to announce the following players that have been selected to these teams.
