Exciting News Regarding FC Richmond Richmond Cup 2009!!!
In a joint effort with Volkswagen and MLS, FC Richmond is excited to announce that the 2009 Richmond Cup (Labor Day) Tournament will be a U12 Boys Qualifying event for the Volkswagen Junior Masters.  The winner of the top U12 Boys Division will head to Washington D.C. in October to compete against other U.S. regional qualifiers in an effort to make it to South Africa and the Volkswagen Junior Masters.

After a great weekend of action for the 6th Annual FC Richmond Sun Cup, several FC Richmond Recreation teams finished off the weekend by winning medals for their great play.

FC Richmond teams Up with Volkswagen and MLS!!!!
The FC Richmond Sun Cup (May 30-31) has teamed up with Volkswagen and MLSVolkswagen and MLS will be at Ironbridge Park all weekend celebrating youth soccer tournaments in America.

FC Richmond Enjoys Success over Memorial Day!!!
Memorial Day weekend usually brings a long list of tournaments for club teams to participate in.  This year was no different, as some FC Richmond teams headed south to the Wrangler/McDonald's Tournament hosted by Greensboro Youth Soccer.  Other teams stayed locally and participated in the Richmond Kickers Colonial Cup.  All FC Richmond teams did very well and the following teams walked away with medals from the weekend.

FC Richmond U8-U9 PDP World Cup....Huge Success!!!!
On Saturday, May 9, the U8-U9 PDP program held their end-of-the-season World Cup tournament.  A day filled with excitement and great play, all the kids look forward to ending their PDP season with the World Cup.  A special thanks goes out to all the coaches and parents for making the day a great one for the kids.  For more information on the competition and pictures from the day, click here...

FC Richmond Scholarship Awards recognize those players who have participated in and made contributions to FC Richmond's soccer programs.  

Scholarships are awarded to those individuals who exhibit academic excellence, leadership skills, community involvement and a commitment to soccer.  

FC Richmond annually awards scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing a college education:  A $1,000 scholarship is offered to travel soccer players and a $500 scholarship is offered to a recreational soccer program participant.
Parents, coaches, referees and school officials may nominate an individual for the scholarships, or the player may apply directly.  Deadline for Application is May 22, 2009

FC RICHMOND HAS SUCCESS IN ROANOKE TOURNAMENT!
The FC Richmond U11-U13 Magic and Mystx teams recently competed in the Roanoke Spring Classic.  After a wet and hard fought weekend, the following teams came away with tournament championships.

Trip Elllis, Assistant Director of Coaching, Takes His Camps Internationally!!!!
In late February, Trip Ellis, took his Non-Stop Soccer Camps to Italy and the US Military Base in Naples.  Ellis, FC Richmond's Assistant Director of Coaching, was contacted by former FC Richmond member Eddie Stephens.  Ellis ran a soccer camp on the NSA Naples and it's support site.  For more information on the camp and the letters written by FC Richmond players to the soldiers' families, read the following article.

FC Richmond Magic player selected to European Trip!!!
Andrew Portell, a member of the FC Richmond Magic '94 & a member of the State ODP team, had the opportunity to travel to Czech Republic, Bratslavia & Austria with the State ODP team April  9-20th During his trip the team had the opportunity to play against several  local  teams, train in professional training facilities, and attend two professional soccer matches.  In addition to the soccer experience, they were immersed in the culture of the region with sightseeing activities as well as partaking in the local cuisine.
Congratulations to Andrew on this wonderful achievement.

VCCL Select Teams Enjoy Success in Florida!!!
Each year, the VCCL selects boys and girls U14 players to represent the league on the Champions League Select Teams.  This year, the teams competed in the 25th International Countryside Easter Tournament.  Along with playing in the tournament, the teams were also able to scrimmage teams from IMG Academy and other outstanding Florida youth soccer clubs.  The boys team ended up winning the tournament, while the girls finished with a record of 2-0-1.  Representing FC Richmond on the boys and girls teams were the following players:

Exciting News Regarding U10-U12 PDP Program!!
FC Richmond has decided to change the name of the U10-U13 PDP Program for the 2009-2010 seasons.  Teams in the U10-U13 program will now be known as FC Richmond Metro Boys and FC Richmond Metro Girls.  The same ideas and principals behind the current program will remain the same.  The only change is to the name of the teams.  The main purpose of the name change is to avoid any confusion between the U8-U9 PDP program and the U10-U13 PDP program.

Colin Clarke and Puerto Rico Islanders...still getting results!!!!
Former FC Richmond Assistant Director of Coaching, Colin Clarke, is still in the CONCACAF Champions Cup with his Puerto Rico Islanders.  Puerto Rico is currently leading their semi-final after 2-0 win the first leg.  For more details of this remarkable run in the CONCACAF CHAMPIONS CUP, click here.

TOPSoccer Back Up and Running!
The TOPSoccer season is starting back up.  TOPSoccer is an outreach effort under the auspices of United States Youth Soccer and the Virginia Youth Soccer Association. TOPSoccer is designed to enrich the lives of children with special needs through the game of soccer.  It offers the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, ages 4-19, who has a mental or physical disability.  For more information on TOPSoccer and to sign up to be Buddy for the program, click the below links.

 Meredith Powroznik - Finalist for Lexus of Richmond Scholarship!!
Recently, Meredith Powroznik (FC Richmond Mystx '90) was selected as a nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Scholar Athlete Leadership scholarship. Meredith, who will be attending Radford University in the fall, was interviewed on WRVA AM 1140 on Wednesday and will appear on Fox 35 this Friday night at 10:45 pm. Meredith is one of 30 finalists for the $20,000 scholarship and is only the second athlete from Prince George High School to be a nominee for the scholarship. FC Richmond wishes Meredith the best of luck as she goes through the scholarship process.

FC Richmond Teams Have Success in Phoenix!!!!
Every February, the U14 Magic and Mystx teams head to Phoenix, AZ to compete in the Desert Classic, hosted by SC Del Sol soccer club. In this year's event, both the FC Richmond Magic '94 and FC Richmond Mystx '94 played great and came away with very good results. The Magic '94 team finished as semi-finalists in the U14 Boys Division. The Mystx '94 (pictured to the right) reached the finals of the tournament, where they came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline to TSA 95 Red from Arizona. Both teams had great tournaments, especially with the disadvantage of playing outside first time, while the teams they compete against were playing together all winter long.
Congrats to both teams on a great trip and even better play.

Colin Clarke Continues Success in Puerto Rico!!!!!

Former FC Richmond Assistant Director of Coaching, Colin Clarke, continues his success down in Puerto Rico with the USL First Division's Puerto Rico Islanders. Clarke, who's Islanders will take part in the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals this week, has been given a 3 year contract extension by the Puerto Rican club. Parker Walton, former FC Richmond Magic player, signs to play in Welsh Premier League!!!!

Parker Walton, a former FC Richmond Magic player, has signed to play as an amateur in the Welsh Premier League with Aberysytwyth Town. This semester, while continuing his studies at Cardiff University, he will play for Aberysytwyth - founded in 1884 and one of Wales' oldest and most respected clubs. Parker, who has been a scholarship player for George Mason the past two years, is very excited about this unique opportunity. FC Richmond coach Ted Jones, who is from Wales, used his contacts to secure a trial for Parker. We at FC Richmond, want to wish him the best of luck while in Wales. FC RICHMOND MYSTX '90 PLAYER HAS BUSY HOLIDAY BREAK!!!!
Erin Liberatore, a member of the FC Richmond Mystx '90, is spending her holiday break in Jackson, Mississippi. Erin, a member of the U19 Region 1 Team is down in Jackson at the ODP Inter-Regional Event taking place December 26th - 30th. While down there, Erin will be competing to earn a spot with the U19 National Team. FC Richmond would like to wish Erin the best of luck in her time down in Mississippi!!!
