]]> http://www.fcrichmond.com/home/709626.html FC RICHMOND CONGRATULATES PEGGY BORGARD ON HER RETIREMENT 02/21/2013 04:33 PM http://www.fcrichmond.com/home/697466.html Over the course of 35 years Peggy has served the youth soccer community in a variety of positions.  Peggy started as a team manager for Dave Amsler at the Strikers.  When Dave started FC Richmond Peggy came with him and served as the first Director of Operations and Registrar.  Peggy then went on to become the Director of Operations and Registrar for the Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL).  On February 1st Peggy retired from most of her day-to-day duties with the VCCL.  FC Richmond would like to thank Peggy Borgard for her years of service to FC Richmond, the VCCL and youth soccer in Virginia.  She leaves a lasting legacy of hundreds of youth soccer players in Virginia who have benefited from her guidance!

]]> http://www.fcrichmond.com/home/697466.html KYLE MIDDLETON PAVILION DEDICATED AT HUGUENOT PARK 11/16/2012 01:19 PM http://www.fcrichmond.com/home/677807.html On Wednesday, November 7th FC Richmond and Chesterfield County officially dedicated the new Corporal Kyle Middleton Pavilion at Huguenot Park.  Kyle Middleton played on the FC Richmond ’83 Magic team from U9 through U16.

Kyle was a great asset to the team and the club.  Dave Amsler describes him as a a player who always gave 100% and was always a team player.  Kyle played with the club for eight years and travelled to Holland with FC.

After high school and college at Old Dominion University, Kyle entered the military serving in the Army.  Corporal Middleton served with the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division out of Ft. Campbell KY.  Kyle served his country with honor and courage.  Kyle was killed in action in Afghanistan on November 22, 2010.  He was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, the 4th highest military combat decoration.

Before Kyle deployed to Afghanistan he made some decisions about his life and legacy should he not return from combat.  Kyle felt that his time playing for, and being a part of FC Richmond so shaped the person he had become that he wanted to leave a portion of his life insurance to FC Richmond. Kyle wanted to give back to the organization he felt he had gained so much from.  His wish was for FC to use his gift to build something lasting for the players.

Two years later on a cold, rainy Wednesday morning Kyle’s family and friends, FC Richmond Board Members, players and staff and Chesterfield County representatives gathered to dedicate and cut the ribbon on this beautiful pavilion in Kyle’s honor.  This pavilion that will provide shelter and protection for our plyers and their competitors for so many years to come was made possible by a young man who was most definitely one of America’s Finest.  Please visit the pavilion and read the dedication plaque.  Please pass along the story of this extraordinary young man and his lasting gift to FC Richmond.

$9,650 Donated to Stowe Family Through Ian Stowe Teammate Fund

Through the efforts of many friends, family, co-workers, and everyone in between, over $9600 was raised to benefit the Stowe family as former FC Richmond Magic player, Ian Stowe, continues his fight with cancer. Ian, pictured above was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Germinoma. Ian has been battling the cancer since January and continues to do well. Ian is now in the radiation phase of treatment and continues to do well. Many of Ian’s former teammates at William and Mary have started StoweStrong to help benefit Ian and cancer awareness. FC Richmond would like to thank everyone for their warm thoughts and notes concerning the passing of John Le Lay. John was an amazing person and huge part of the FC Richmond family. As a club, we have discussed several possible ways to honor John’s legacy through FC Richmond. We have decided on two ideas that we plan to set up to make sure John is remembered for many years to come.
 
1) John Le Lay Memorial Fund – The John Le Lay Memorial Fund will be set up to honor the life and legacy of John Le Lay. Each year, the FC Richmond Board of Directors, along with the Le Lay family, will make a decision on how to use the money raised though the fund to best represent John. There are many things that John was passionate about and the goal of this fund will be to ensure those projects are supported. 
 
If you would like to donate to the John Le Lay Memorial Fund, you may do so in the following ways….
 
A) Checks/Money Orders/Cash Donations – Any of these donations can be mailed to the following address… FC Richmond c/o John Le Lay Memorial Fund

B) Credit Card Donations -- For the Spring 2011 Recreation and PDP Online Registration Pages, there will be a section to allow for credit card donations to the John Le Lay Memorial Fund. The same system will be set up for the 2011-2012 Magic, Mystx, and Metro online registration systems.   This will allow you to make donations to the fund using your credit card.
 
2) John Le Lay PDP World Cup – John started the “World Cup” for the U8 & U9 PDP program several years ago. It was truly one of his favorite events on the soccer calendar. Beginning with the Spring 2011 PDP World Cup, we will rename the event the John Le Lay World Cup. Details of the specifics to this event and how we will honor John through the day’s festivities will be given out as we get closer to the spring. 
 
Thank you again to everyone who sent in notes and well wishes. It showed how much John meant to so many people throughout the FC Richmond family. We are confident that the John Le Lay Memorial Fund and the John Le Lay PDP World Cup will keep the memory of John Le Lay alive in our program for many years to come.

It comes with a heavy heart and great sadness to announce the passing of John Le Lay after a long battle with cancer. 
 
John has been a member of the FC Richmond family for twenty-five years and contributed to the lives of so many youth soccer players in the Richmond area.  John’s love and passion for the game of soccer will surely be missed.  It is that same love and passion that will live on in the players that had the pleasure of being coached by John.  During his time with FC Richmond, John served as a Magic coach, Mystx coach, Metro coach, and most recently the U8 PDP Coach.  John was a beloved man throughout the FC Richmond community.  Every player that was coached by Coach Le Lay, immediately became a better player and a better person.
 
 
 
John lended his voice to the recent FC Richmond radio ad...just one of the many contributions John made to the club over the last 25 years.
