Trip Ellis - Executive Director/Technical Director

Trip has been a part of FC Richmond since its inception in 1985. He started with the club as a player, then assistant coach, head coach, Assistant Director of Coaching (DOC), and now Executive Director/Technical Director, following his mentor of 30 years, Dave Amsler. As a player with FC Richmond, Trip's '73 Magic team won the VA State Cup, he was chosen as a VA State Team player for five years, the US Region I Team for three years, attended a U16 US National Team Pool Camp, and was selected to the NSCAA All South Team for three consecutive years.
 
Trip was awarded a full soccer scholarship to play at NSCAA Division 1 powerhouse, Philadelphia Textile. After winning the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Conference his freshman year, Trip was chosen as one of only two freshmen on the Philly Soccer Seven All Conference First Team. Trip transferred to the University of South Florida for his junior and senior years, helping to build the program to the Conference USA Champions. Trip was also selected to the Conference USA All-Star Team.
 
In 1996 Trip began his professional career as a 2nd round draft pick for the Philadelphia Kixx of the National Professional (Indoor) Soccer League. He played for the Kixx for two years before moving on to the Richmond Kickers and playing in the A-League. During his three and a half years in Richmond, Trip was named to the A-League Team of the week multiple times, and won the Atlantic Division title, In 2000 Trip finished his six year professional career in the A-League with teh Raleigh Capital Express.
 
Trip joined FC Richmond full time as the Assistant Director of Coaching in August of 2000, and now serves as the club's Executive Director/Technical Director. He has served as a VA Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) District and State Team coach, a VYSA Coaching Education Instructor, sat on the Board of Directors and President of the Advanced Development Soccer League (ADSL), has been a Board Member of the Club Champions League (CCL), and currently sits on the CCL Executive Committee. Trip earned his USSF National B license and USSF National Youth license in 2001, his USSF A license in 2007, and has attended USSF continuing education workshops in Brazil, Holland and Belgium. Trip has been selected as a VCCL All-Star Team coach for the Dallas Cup on five occasions, selected as the Assistant Coach on the 2017 Generation adidas Select Girls Team to Olympic Lyon, France. In 2018 Trip was selected as the Head Coach for the Generation adidas Select Boys Team to Ajax, Holland. Trip and his wife, Lynne, have two daughters, Olivia and Mazie.

Trip Dunville - Director of Coaching

Trip Dunville was one of the original members of the FC Richmond Magic program.  During his time as a player, Trip was a member of ODP State and Regional teams and a member of the NSCAA All-Area team in 1985 and 1986.  In 1985, he was also selected as a member of the NSCAA High School All-American team and also won the Henrico County School Board Recognition of Excellence and Achievement. Trip was recently inducted into the Douglas Freeman High School Hall of Fame in 2018.  After high school, Dunville headed to Davis and Elkins College to play for the nationally ranked Senators soccer program.
After college, Dunville headed down to the Caribbean to pursue various interests, including running a soccer club called St. Thomas Youth Soccer Association. While in the Caribbean, Trip became a member of the US Virgin Islands National Team and competed with the national team in their 2006 World Cup Qualifying campaign.
Dunville, a member of the FC Richmond 25th Anniversary team, is now back in Richmond. Trip earned his USSF National "A" Coaching License and his USSF National "Y" (youth) Coaching License. Dunville will continue to coach in the Magic Elite/Classic and the Mystx Elite/Classic programs. Trip is married and has two boys, Murphy currently in the U6 program and Cashian. 

MAC PHILLIPS - DIRECTOR OF CLASSIC TEAMS AND DIRECTOR OF GOALKEEPING

Mac Phillips serves as the Director of Classic Teams and the Director of Goalkeeping at the club. Mac few up in southwestern VA, playing his club soccer for Valley AFC and high school soccer for Franklin County High School where he earned First-Team All-State distinctions as a senior. Mac was then recruited to play goalkeeper for the College of William and Mary.
 
While at William and Mary Mac was a two year starter and earned conference All-Rookie Team honors after he tied the school record for single season shutouts with nine (2013). At the conclusion of his senior year he won the Andy Crapol Team Award. While in school Mac got involved in coaching at the local club, VA Legacy, where he coached in the Advanced Development program for U8 and younger players, led goalkeeper sessions for the club, and assisted in the summer camp programming.
 
In 2017 Mac moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho where he coached at North Idaho College and with the Spokane Sounders Soccer Club. He ran the goalkeeping for both organizations during that competitive year before returning to Virginia to coach with Hampden-Sydney College.
 
At Hampden-Sydney College Mac was the top assistant and helped the team enjoy some great successes. In 2019 the team went undefeated in conference play, and earned the top seed in the conference tournament for the first time in program history, with a number of players earning All-Conference, All-Region and All-American honors. During his time at Hampden-Sydney Mac also coached in the FC Richmond Metro (now Classic) program, and joined the VA ODP Central District staff.
 
Mac joined FC Richmond full time in 2021. Mac is currently Head Goalkeeping Coach for the VA state Central District.

Kris South - Director of Operations and Magic and Mystx Elite Administrator

Kris South serves as the Director of Travel Operations and Marketing for the Club.  Kris has worked in the sports industry for most of her career.  Kris holds an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Sport Science with a minor in Coaching from JMU and a Masters of Arts in Sports Management from The Ohio State University.  She began her career as the tournament director at the PGA's Nike Dominion Open at The Dominion Club.  Kris then spent several years as the Assistant Director of Marketing for Athletics at The Ohio State University.  After taking time off to spend at home with her two boys, Kris joined FC Richmond as a manager in 2010 and then in her current position in 2011.
Kris ran track at JMU and enjoys running, golf and spending time with her family.  Kris is married with two children, Michael who is studying Architecture at The Pratt Institute ('98 Magic, Pratt Institute) and Ryan who is in the Professional Flight program at Auburn University.

Beth Doggett - Magic and Mystx Classic and Futures Administrator

Beth has been affiliated with FC Richmond since 2009.  While she was a stay-at-home mom, she earned a Paralegal Studies degree and served as team manager for 4 years before being hired by FC Richmond.  She is currently administrator for the Futures and Classics Travel programs.  Beth enjoys music, the beach, and watching sports.  Beth is married to Greg and they have two children Raina, who will be attending and playing soccer for Ferrum College (‘05 Mystx), and Ben (‘06 Magic).

SARA TOOMBS BERGER - RECREATIONAL SOCCER COORDINATOR

Sara Toombs Berger serves as Recreational Soccer Coordinator for FC Richmond. After studies at VCU & Naropa University in Colorado, Sara began her career as a certified doula (DONA), providing childbirth education, labor support, and postpartum support. From 2013-2017, Sara served on the board of Bon Air Presbyterian Preschool, helping hire a new director, raise revenue, and expand their Parent Coffees, Free-cycle Exchange, and scholarship fund. She has continued to help organize various PTA & community projects (like the Bon Air Village Fair) while raising four children with her husband, Malik, who has coached FC Richmond Recreational teams (U5-U7) in the past. Most recently, Sara spent two years helping to establish and run a print shop in Scott's Addition until accepting her new role at FC Richmond. Over the years, she has enjoyed softball, cycling, yoga, rock climbing, Barre and running.
Sara spends most of her time chasing her four kids. The oldest, Tavi, begins her studies at VCU this year. Zayda will be at James River High School, and Asha & Levi will start Robious Middle School in the fall. Any other time is spent playing with her golden retriever, Sukie, listening to music, creating art, and spending time with friends.

LYNNE ELLIS - COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND DIGITAL MEDIA COORDINATOR

Lynne serves as the Community Outreach and Digital Media Coordinator. Lynne's role is to help FC Richmond live out its tagline "Beyond the Game" by connecting players, families and staff through volunteer opportunities and events within the club and community. Additionally, Lynne manages the Junior Board of Directors program, which provides leadership and outreach opportunities for some of our high school players. She is also responsible for FC Richmond's digital media.
Lynne has a passion for giving back to the community and helping underserved populations. She is a former teacher who loves to help kids learn life lessons through service. She also has event planning and marketing experience through her previous position at Bank of America where she worked for 10 years prior to becoming an elementary school teacher. Lynne has an undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech, a Masters in Teaching from Mary Baldwin University and a Digital Marketing certification from UVA. Lynne is married and has two daughters who play(ed) soccer for FC Richmond.

ANN QUIRING - BINGO COORDINATOR

Ann Quiring started her FC Richmond journey by watching John Lelay coach her oldest daughter in the PDP program. It was John’s coaching and connections with the kids that made it clear FC Richmond was the Quiring‘s soccer niche. 
 
While at a managers meeting in 2012, Ann’s new undertaking otherwise known as charitable gaming or BINGO was a project like no other before it. Now almost 10 years later she manages two bingo sessions for FC Richmond every week. Ann’s competitive spirit is fierce as she strives to surpass other organizations attendance numbers and instant sales. She reports her game results just like the team managers do.
 
Ann played soccer from the age of five with the CASL league in Raleigh, NC all the way through high school. She is married with two daughters that played for FC Richmond. If you ask Ann what she misses about being on the sidelines every Sunday, it’s the families and their love of soccer!
 
FC Richmond parent volunteers are the difference between good and great for the bingo community. Since the closure due to COVID, we have reopened with a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers - Morgan Dark, Ryan Corrigan, Amy Minton, Paula Grady, Arlene Smyre, Pat Valerio, Daon Thomas, Charles Jennings, Mark Oppe, Tico Thomas, Katherine Quiring, Erin Quiring, Danielle Champagne and Jim Grady. Pop’s Bingo Hall is a non-smoking faculty where everyone is welcome and players from all over Virginia come to enjoy bingo. 

Dave Amsler - Founder - MARCH 22, 1948-JUNE 4, 2021

Dave was a professional soccer teacher for 50 years. In 1975 he was one of the first 50 coaches to earn the USSF "A" coaching license -- American soccer’s highest license.
 
Dave was the Director of Coaching for FC Richmond since 1985. FC Richmond’s 1,500-member youth soccer organization offers programs for recreation, player development, and travel soccer players, including the Magic and Mystx travel teams.
 
In 1976 Dave founded the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club and continued as its director until 1985 when he founded FC Richmond Magic. He was active in both the boys and girls Olympic Development Programs for 20 years as a Region I staff coach and a Virginia State team coach. Dave served as Director of the JCP State Coaching School for 10 years and has been a frequent lecturer for youth soccer coaches in the South. Dave was also Co-Director of the Randolph Macon Soccer Camp for eight years and was a high school soccer coach for three years. 
 
In 1997, Dave founded and was President of the Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL) for 18 years and now exists as the Club Champions League (CCL). The Club Champions League (CCL) is the first, and largest, club-based youth soccer league in the United States.  With four distinct competitive divisions, the league has over 13,000 participants, and over 72,000 registered youth soccer players within CCL member clubs.  The CCL is larger than many state associations. The league is one of, if not, the most competitive league in the region and/or country. 
 
As a soccer player and coach, Dave has traveled to thirty (30) different countries. Over eight hundred (800+) former players in his programs have played in 100+ different US colleges and universities. Over the years, Dave and his staff has coached and participated in the development of twenty (20) National Team players; several college (6) and high school (15) All-Americans; twenty four (24) professional players; three (3) professional-level coaches; and the only current FIFA-licensed referee in the State of Virginia.
 
While attending Campbell College in North Carolina, Dave was voted team MVP all four years, was a 3-time All-South All-American, and captained Campbell College for two years. In 1969 he captained the team to a 5th place finish in the nation in the NAIA National Championship and was inducted into the Campbell University College Hall of Fame in October 2000. Dave earned his B.S. in Health and Physical Education while attending Campbell College.
 
Dave was married and had three children, four stepchildren and three grandchildren. Dave passed away on June 4, 2021.
