Junior Board Hosts Parent Webinar: Secrets of Parents Who Raised Highly Successful Athletes

The FC Richmond Junior Board hosted a special webinar for parents of athletes featuring Michael Cerreto, Sports Psychology Counselor with A Talented Mind Clinic. You will learn about the top ten secrets of parents who raised highly successful athletes.

Ask yourself, why do some athletes with the same physical talents develop into well rounded, self-responsible adults in sports, academics, and relationships, and others do not?

Michael Cerreto set out to answer that question by first exploring how the most responsible, rounded, elite athletes were parented. He wanted to know what their parents emphasized and focused on that influenced them to lead healthy lives during and after their sport.

Through interviews, parents who raised independent and successful athletes shared ten secrets they used to parent and support children through long, successful sports careers. The ten secrets are based on research of parents of Olympic, professional, and elite Division I athletes who had successful careers and built well-rounded adult lives after retirement.

You will learn about each secret during the webinar and get to ask questions to improve your own sports parenting.

The Junior Board Provides Outreach Opportunities for Players

FC Richmond believes it is important to go “Beyond the Game” and provide character building opportunities for our players. With the support of the Junior Board, we have several opportunities to give back to our community in February. These opportunities are great for team building as well!

Ronald McDonald House, Feb 16th or 23rd, 11AM-12:30PM
The Ronald McDonald House is a charity that provides home cooked meals to the families of those receiving extensive medical care. Volunteers will have the opportunity to make meals and benefit these families.

Richmond SPCA, Feb 29th, 11AM-12PM
At the Richmond SPCA, players will have the opportunity to care for rescued dogs and cats while being able to create a stronger relationship with their teammates. The time spent helping the animals does go to one’s community service hours. Spending time playing with the animals is a rewarding experience for players and one they can share with their teammates.

Join FC Richmond in writing letters of encouragement to children with cancer on Feb 1st & 2nd at the futsal games at the MAC from 12:30-4:30pm.  Members of our Junior Board will have a table set up with materials to write a letter. The Junior Board Hosts "Top Mental Skills For Soccer Performance" Workshop

FC Richmond's Junior Board is excited to partner with Michael Cerreto, Sports Psychology Counselor, for a free player workshop, Top Mental Skills for Peak Performance in Soccer, on January 27th, from 5:30-7pm at the DoubleTree Hotel. Register HERE.

Workshop Description: To achieve the highest level in soccer, you need to consistently execute five key mental skills each practice and game. These mental skills are noticeable on the field and are the ones college coaches look for when making recruiting decisions. The athletes who possess them achieve a higher level of play and success throughout their careers in club and college soccer.

The problem is that most soccer players only possess one or two of those skills and fall short to achieve their full potential. This deficit also keeps an entire team from winning against the best opponents, always falling short.

Don’t fall short. FC Richmond is conducting a special clinic for U14 and older players to teach you the five mental skills. You walk away with tangible actions to take to develop them.

The Junior Board Hosts 2nd Annual Panel & Play Event

Our Junior Board put on another great Panel & Play event on Friday! Our panel consisted of college coaches and players who shared a wealth of information about playing college soccer and the recruitment process.
