As the spring season kicks off, FC Richmond is pleased to announce the addition of Mac Phillips as the club’s Assistant Director of Classic Teams and Goalkeeper Director. Mac will begin his new role with the club on March 1st. The club is excited for Mac to begin working with all of our goalkeepers and bringing a new level of instruction, education, and commitment to the players within our club who play in between the posts. He will also be assisting Ian Stowe, Director of Classic Teams, with the day-to-day and weekly tasks on and off the field to help improve our players’ experiences in the Classic travel program.
“Mac has always demonstrated a strong worth ethic and high level of commitment to his players. We’re very happy to bring someone of his character and quality into our technical coaching team. I’m confident our players, families, and coaching staff will feel his impact right away,” said Trip Ellis, FC Richmond’s Executive Director/Director of Coaching.
Mac returns to the club after spending the last three years with Hampden Sydney Men’s Soccer as their Assistant Coach. While coaching at HSC, he also worked with several of our Classic teams, formerly known as Metro, and worked in other various programs such as Futsal and Total Soccer Training. Prior to his time at HSC, he was at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho where he served as the goalkeeper coach. During his time at NIC, he was the goalkeeper coach for the Spokane Shadow/Sounders Soccer Club. Phillips also spent two years coaching at Virginia Legacy during his time at William and Mary. Mac holds a Goalkeeping Level 3 License from the United Soccer Coaches and is also currently pursuing his USSF National C License. He is also part of the Central District ODP Staff as the Goalkeeper Coach.
Before his coaching career began, Mac attended The College of William and Mary playing for the Tribe from 2012-2016. During his time with the Tribe, Mac earned an All-Rookie CAA selection in 2013 after posting nine shutouts during the campaign, tying him at first place all-time for shutouts in a single season. In addition to his individual performances, he helped the team to an NCAA at-large bid that same season. Mac continued to impress on and off the field; earning a degree in Geology.
"First, I would like to thank the Board and professional staff at FC Richmond for this opportunity. I am humbled and excited to be a part of their vision for the club and to serve the families of the community. I can’t wait to get to know all of the players and families to continue the great work that FCR has done for many years now,” said Phillips.
From the staff at FC Richmond, we are extremely pleased and excited to have Mac return to the club as its new Assistant Director of Classic Teams and Goalkeeper Director. We look forward to working with Mac, coaches, and all players beginning in March! |
