Rec Futsal General Rules

*gentle reminder that we always defer to our referees!

1. Teams are comprised of four outfield players and one goalkeeper.
2. There are no throw-ins in futsal. A kick-in will be used to restart play.
3. There is no offsides in futsal. 
4. Teams are entitled to a one minute timeout in each half. Timeouts are allowed when the team is in possession and ball is out of play.
5. There are no goal kicks in futsal. Goalkeepers restart play by distributing ball with their hands.
6. Substitutions may occur any time during the run of play. Substitutions must be made through the technical area in front of the team's bench, not at half court.
7. Direct free-kick fouls are accumulated in each half. If one team accumulates 6 or more direct free-kick fouls in one half, the opposing team will be awarded a direct free-kick.
8. Goalkeeper can throw the ball into the opponent’s box.
9. Scoring from kick-off IS allowed.
10. Goalkeeper can punt the ball.
11. The pass-back rule will not be implemented for U7-U10 age groups. Players may use the keeper anytime while in possession of the ball without penalty.
12. There will be a “no heading” rule for U12 teams and under
13. No switching of benches between halves
14. Game length is (two) 24-minute halves with a running clock
15. There is no slide tackling allowed.
16. One three (3) minute half time
17. One Time Out per half

Substitutions

All substitutions are on the fly, this includes goalkeeping substitutions. Referees will not stop play for goalkeeping substitutions. A substitute may not enter the pitch until the player leaving the pitch leaves through the substitution zone in front of his teams’ bench. Any substitute who enters the pitch before the player being replaced has completely left the field of play may be shown a yellow card. All substitutions must take place through the substitution zone in front of his teams’ bench -- not at the half-way line.

Game Balls
Size ball used by each age group:
Under U12 - size 3
U13 and older – size 3.5 - 4 

Balls will be provided by FC Richmond.

Equipment
The wearing of shin guards will be mandatory for all players. Indoor, flat soled soccer shoes also must be worn, or non-skid, non-marking sneakers. Cleats will NOT be allowed on indoor floors!
 

Time Outs / Home Team Colors
There will be one time out for each team per half.
Home team is to wear Sky blue jerseys. Away team is to wear Navy blue jerseys. Away team centers off first. U7/8 division will be provided jerseys at the first game.

Forfeited Games
If a team fails to show for a scheduled match, the referee shall allow a 5-minute grace period. After the 5 minutes, if the team has not yet arrived or does not have enough players to field a team (4), coaches will share players in order that the game can still be played.

Players/Teams forfeiting a match will not receive a refund on their registration fee.

Ejections - Red Cards
The minimum penalty for an ejection is that the player shall not be permitted to play in the immediate next match. 

The maximum penalty, after review by FC Richmond, may result in the individual players or teams’ expulsion. 

Coach Ejections
If a coach is ejected from any match, a referee’s report of the incident shall be turned over to the FC Richmond administrator by the referee. 

The minimum penalty for an ejection is that the coach shall not be permitted to coach or remain on the player’s bench in the immediate next match. 

The maximum penalty, after review by FC Richmond, may result in the individual coach or team’s expulsion from the League.

Games cancelled by FC Richmond
We reserve the right to postpone or cancel games at any time for any reason such as bad weather or facility problems. If we do decide to cancel games, refunds will not be provided and we will make every effort to make up the missed game.

We are excited to offer Recreational players U7-14 the opportunity to play futsal this Winter 2025. This is an excellent opportunity to get extra touches on the ball in a smaller space indoors. The season will consist of 7 games, no practices, and will be held on the following dates:

SATURDAY GAMES - January 4, 11, 18

SUNDAY GAMES - January 26, February 2, 9, 16

U7-U14 Girls and Boys 5v5 Rec Futsal teams

Registration for Winter Rec Futsal is now CLOSED

Cost: $160.00/player + $10.00 VYSA fee for Futsal Registration (if your player did NOT play FC Richmond Fall Rec soccer)

Location: GUARDIAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY (6851 COURTHOUSE RD. CHESTERFIELD, VA 23832)

Roster Max: 9 players per team, 1 coach per team

League Play – 7 Weekends 1/4/25-2/16/25

Volunteer Coaches will receive a $50 discount on their player's registration, and must have completed requirements to coach Rec soccer teams with FC Richmond. Come Coach with Us!

Just like outdoor recreational soccer, the success of this program depends on volunteers to coach their child's Futsal team. There are no league-organized practices, only weekend games.

Coaches can utilize tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts and other facilities to hold additional practice if they desire.
